Layout Highlight

It's time to share another page layout and I'm in love with this creation from Nicole Wise! Nicole is a talented designer and I confess that I love giving her more complicated pages to work with. Shhh...don't tell her! :-) You know those pages you see and love at a store but can't imagine how you'd use in to create a page? This is one of those papers. I adore this shell design, which is full of texture and glitter but with the wide border at the bottom I couldn't figure out the best way to use the paper to create a page. Nicole did an amazing job of showcasing just one photo, of her sweet puppy, sitting on the beach. She used glitter letters for the word "baby," which was a perfect way to mimic the glitter at the bottom of the page. And she kept things simple...just a short journaling paragraph and a big 'ol bow. What a great page and you can stop in and see this beauty in person at the store! While you're here...take a few photos for inspiration and grab some paper for your own page!

Technique Tuesday

I'm going to chat about a quick and easy technique today...dying ribbon! There are a number of ways to take white or cream ribbon and change the color to match your cardstock, as I did on today's card. I'm going to share a number of links for the different options available.

Using Distress Inks - This is one of my favorite methods to dye ribbon (and the technique I used for the card), shown by Tim Holtz. You'll need to scroll through this post until you get to the portion where he showcases how to dye ribbon with Distress Inks.

Using Copic Markers - This is an exciting post by Nichole Heady, showing how to use Copic Markers to make striped ribbon!

You can also use the chisel tip of a Copic Marker to create a solid color on ribbon. Alcohol inks also work to dye ribbon but are super messy...wear gloves when using alcohol inks!

Now what is the best ribbon to use for dying? My favorite choice is seam binding. This isn't your mother's seam binding, which is very thick, stiff, and only a good option for clothing! This ribbon is very lightweight and soft. You can invest in purchasing this type of ribbon in a variety of colors or you can stop in at the store and purchase the white ribbon by the yard. Then take it home and use your stash of markers and inks to experiment with color options! Another great option is grosgrain ribbon, which is a great choice when using Copics. Whatever option you choose, you're sure to have fun with the creating your own unique ribbon colors!

The Laurel Sampler will brighten any room in your home.

Technique Tuesday

Last month, during our monthly Spellbinders Club class we made this darling paper box. The name of the March die is Anemone Flower and we used it to create the flower. This is an amazing die that you can use to make these beautiful layered paper flowers. Very fun!

I used Core-di-nations paper to create the flower. This paper had a colored core, which is revealed once you sand the paper. It's a great paper to use when embossing. The box was created with fun paper from Reminisce. Love the New York words!!

For directions on how to create this super easy box, follow this link to Nichole Heady's blog. Nichole posted a tutorial on creating these boxes years ago and I've been using this same technique every time I make a box! It's so easy!!

What's New

It's all about paper this week! Our shelves are stock full of brand new paper lines! Stop by this weekend and check out all of the new goodies!

First up is two new lines from Imaginisce...Making waves (seen above), which features darling summer-themed paper, filled with bright pinks, blues, and oranges. We also have coordinating die cuts and canvas stickers in stock.

Another new line from Imaginisce...Hippity Hop! Yes, this line has a few Easter-themed papers, perfect for capturing those Easter photos, but there are also a few sweet Spring inspired papers as well. Adorable new designs!

Life is short...buy good shoes! I confess that not only do I have a thing for new designer paper but I also have quite the collection of shoes! How about this sweet paper from Karen Foster, covered with all kinds of sassy shoes! Wouldn't this make a great girlfriend layout?

Bo Bunny never disappoints and their Country Garden line is no exception. This line features pale colors and beautiful vintage prints. Butterflies, text, and flowers...my favorite combo!

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!
